Review: Rio

Rio (2011)
Directed by Carlo Saldanha
I must say before reviewing Rio that i am mortally afraid of Parrots, don't no why just always have been always will be - its my thing. So for me to sit through never mind enjoy a film about a parrot was a big big ask (even if they are animated!) But i found myself pleasntly suprised by Rio, mainly thanks to the voice of Jessie Esienberg (Zombieland, The Social Network) who brings his character Blue to life with the charm that he seems to with most of his other characters. The film is full of vibrant animal characters and has a chilling performance from Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Comcords and soon to be seen in Men In Black III) as the villian of the peice. There is a classic samba feel to the film brought through by the films soundtrack but the problem with the film is you feel they've just taken the stand out moments from other animated films and plonked them in Rio which is fine but leaves the film lacking in the creativity and orginality we have come to expect from Animated features.
