Review: The Beaver

The Beaver (2011)
Director Jodie Foster
In cinema sometimes the craziest ideas are the best and most loved. For example a walking carpet in Star Wars has turned into one of the film worlds most recognizable figures. So really it should be know suprise that a film about a man who recovers out of his mid-life depression by speaking through a beaver puppet. This is of course the Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Signs) show with a superb performance, infact for me one of the best performances i've seen all year and manages to captivate certainly through the first 2 thirds of the film. Thats the problem that the last third seems to take the story too far and your left wishing that they had left this as an hour long TV special. Also the sub plot, involving two of the best young actors around Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salavation) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone, X-Men First Class) for me just dosnt fit in well enough with the overall story and even left me wishing for Mel Gibson and his beaver to return and retake the film. Although don't get me wrong i'm still in love with Jennifer Lawrence!!
