Review: 21 Jump Street

21 Jump Street (2012)
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller
Its based on the series that launched the career of a certain Mr Johnny Depp. And coming out at a time when the standard for comedies seems to be low as it seems 2012 is about one thing and that action action action. The problem is 21 Jump Street is only just alright, espically when half the best jokes are in the trailer. There are some good jokes left in that havn't been used in promotion but still not enough to put it up there with some of the better comedies of recent years. Although the leads Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, The Eagle) and recently oscar nominated Jonah Hill (Superbad, Get Him to the Greek) are perfectly likable you can't help but feel you've seen both of these characters before. Although pretty standed in terms of plot and jokes, the one stand out the film has is the way it occasionally makes a joke of the modern Hollywood system. "There just recylcing shit from the 80s" is the particular standout line but with this you can't help that feel their not recycling very well.
5 out of 10
